No More Kings is Pete Mitchell III and Adam DeGraide. Pete is the singer, songwriter and painter, and a former animator for Disney and the Jim Henson Company. He started writing songs with co-founder Neil DeGraide in high school in Rhode Island in the 1990s, and Neil's brother Adam joined on bass. The band split up in the late '90s.

In 2006 Adam signed them to his label, Astonish Entertainment, and that August William Zabka directed the video for Sweep the Leg, with Martin Kove, the original Cobra Kai and a cameo from Ralph Macchio. It went viral years before Netflix brought the story back. The song went into Sony's MLB 08: The Show and Fox Soccer's David Beckham promo, and the band spent 2006 to 2008 on the road.

Neil produced the first three albums: No More Kings (2007), And the Flying Boombox (2009) and III (2014). The Neil-era Sweep the Leg remixes and b-sides reached streaming services in 2024 as the I Was Always Cobra Kai EP. Since 2024 Pete and Adam have written and produced the band as a duo: Back, a Back to the Future album, and Bored, built from board games. Adam is also behind the band's cover singles, including Hall & Oates' “I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)” and Spin Doctors' “Two Princes” (2025). Pete paints every cover.
